This district was established in 1997 and is one of Savannah's oldest African-American neighborhoods. The purpose of the overlay district is to promote the district's general welfare through its conservation, rehabilitation, and redevelopment. The Historic Preservation Commission reviews demolition, new construction, and other major projects; all other exterior work is reviewed by Preservation staff.
