Applications, Instructions, and Forms
The Historic Preservation Department protects and preserves the City of Savannah and Chatham County's
historic resources through local zoning ordinances.
NOTICE: Per OCGA §8-2-26, detailed checklists of items are required to be submitted with each Development Application. Additionally, there is an affidavit at the end of the
application and each checklist that must be signed and submitted as part of the application process. The completion of this affidavit certifies that ALL required items,
including payment have been provided to the MPC at the time of application.
ALL COMPLETED APPLICATIONS SHALL BE SENT TO THE FOLLOWING CENTRALIZED EMAIL ADDRESS: Historic@thempc.org. Please do not send your applications
directly to staff members or their email addresses as this may cause processing delays. It is permissible to provide a copy to staff concurrently with submission of the application to
Historic@thempc.org.
This process was adopted to aid in the review process for all types of development reviews in the state - for both the applicant and the reviewing body.
Revisions to HPC, HSMC, HDBR, and CCHPC Board Review Submission Deadlines
This serves as notice that effective March 30, 2022, the MPC is changing its deadline time for the submission of applications for the above Boards and Commissions to
3 p.m. on the applicable cut-off date. This earlier submission deadline allows our staff to better ensure that a complete application and proper payment have been submitted and can
be processed for placement on the applicable Board or Commission agenda.
The failure to submit payment and/or the filing of an incomplete application on the deadline date and time will delay the placement of your application on the applicable agenda.
Historic District Board of Review
The Historic District Board of Review (HDBR) reviews and grants Certificates of Appropriateness for the Savannah Downtown Historic District.

Historic Preservation Commission
The City of Savannah Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) reviews and grants Certificates of Appropriateness for the following Historic Districts:
Victorian
Historic District, Streetcar Historic District and Cuyler-Brownville Historic District
.
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), also, reviews demolition applications for contributing buildings in the following Conservation Districts:
Ardsley
Park / Chatham Crescent, Ardmore, Parkside and Carver / Flatman Village.**

Effective the February 28, 2024 meeting, the Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 2:00 p.m.
