Historic Site & Monument Commission

The Savannah-Chatham County Historic Site and Monument Commission was established in 1949; its purpose is to ensure that existing markers, monuments, and works of public art are restored and/or repaired, and that appropriate new works are erected. The Commission is composed of five volunteer members who are appointed by the Mayor and Aldermen. The Chairman of the Park and Tree Commission also serves as an ex-officio member.

The Commission meets the first Thursday of every month at 4pm in the Arthur A. Mendonsa Hearing Room at 112 E State St. The meetings are open and the public is welcome to attend and comment.

The Master Plan and Guidelines provides guidance to applicants regarding theme, site, design and artist, and serves as a basis for evaluating applications.
