As we look at options to accommodate growing traffic, bicycling and walking are air-pollution-free, healthy, and common-sense for short trips. Consistently, surveys reveal the public's desire for more bike lanes, trails, and continuous sidewalks. Savannah enjoys beautiful weather, which is conducive to non-vehicular travel but not always possible due to accessibility and safety issues. The non- motorized plan was developed by identifying needed pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and prioritizing these improvements.
The Non-motorized Transportation Plan can also guide local governments in the development of Capital Improvement Programs and guide organizations applying for grants in the future under such programs as Transportation Alternatives.
